You are moments away from getting access to EVERYTHING you need to join us on World Race: Semesters INCLUDING...
Exposure to the Greatest Needs in the World
You'll no longer just read about the world's problems and feel powerless to help. You'll see poverty, hopelessness, addiction, and destitution firsthand. You'll bring awareness and action by being the tangible hands and feet of Jesus.

Training Camp takes place at the Adventures in Missions headquarters, in Gainesville, Georgia, for 2-4 days before you launch for the field. Training Camp helps prepare you to connect with God, understand community living and learn to do ministry overseas.

Travel and
Explore some of the world's most remote locations while serving local ministries. The fundraising goal amount includes food, lodging, local transportation, and round-trip travel from Atlanta, GA to your ministry location.
International Traveler’s Insurance

Every Racer will have a medical insurance plan through MissionSafe. This covers new accidents and illnesses when traveling outside your home country and protects you from the cost of medical care and providing emergency medical services when you need them.
Training, Tools, and Skills

From Training Camp and on-field trainings to debriefs, you’ll receive hands-on teaching in cross-cultural ministry, personal development, spiritual growth, and leadership tools—as well as further development of your natural skills, abilities, gifts, and talents.

Clarity and Direction

From your identity in Christ, to direction for the future, you’ll explore your purpose in Him and better define your spiritual gifts. You'll gain clarity on how to use the gifts God has given you to live out the Great Commission as a follower of Jesus.

You’ll live closely with a group of like-minded individuals just like you, diving deep into the Word of God, and discovering together what it means to be the church.
Spiritual Discipline

As you live in community like the early church did, you’ll go deeper into spiritual disciplines like worship, prayer, and fasting. As you're immersed into new cultures, you'll take what you've experienced and dive into scripture to see what God says about life.
*Fundraising goal amount does not include personal spending money, travel to training camp, return travel home from Atlanta, GA at the conclusion of your trip, and/or vaccinations.

Wondering what God has in store your life?
As you approach adulthood, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed about the choices that lie ahead.

It’s normal to wonder if what you’re pursuing is God’s will or a desire of your own heart.

It's important to bring God to the center of your life while making big decisions that affect your future.

World Race: Semesters gives you a chance to do just that.
Discover what passions, gifts, and talents God has given you to pursue for the Kingdom of God.

Learn how to turn to God for answers and get hands-on experience on how to actually put into practice the things the Bible teaches…
  •  Travel with Christian role models and friends who can give you godly advice…
  •  Learn how to read the Bible and seek answers for the peace you need…
  •  Get hands-on experience on how to actually put into practice the things the Bible teaches…
  •  And be a light to the world and show hurting people how great the love of God is.
Taking an intentional semester off from school can actually propel you into making the most of your college experience, or whatever you may decide to do.

We've seen the fruit of students making wise decisions and doing great things, in college and afterwards, because they took a season to seek after God's heart while serving His people.

If you long to do something tangible that will allow you to explore who God created you to be, to walk alongside other Christians authentically living out their faith…

If you’d rather BE the church than go to church...

If you long to go, like Jesus commanded...

If you’re tired of just talking and dreaming about it…
“If we never get out of our comfort zones we can’t grow into the places God has prepared for us.”
–Seth Barnes

Founder and President of Adventures in Missions and the World Race
But as anyone who has traveled on or known someone who has traveled on short-term missions can tell you...

It’s not that simple...

Short-term missions and service trips by well-meaning but misguided westerners can often do more harm than good in local cultures.

So many people who intend to help others share the Gospel and see the world come back home disappointed, jaded and worse off spiritually than before they left.

The reason this happens boils down to three biggest but most common mistakes people who travel on missions make...

! What Not To Do !
3 Biggest Mistakes Missional World Travelers Make
Mistake 1
Choosing an inexperienced agency.
Some estimates says many as 4 million people a year go on mission-focused trips, but 75% of them do not meet the standard benchmarks for excellence outlined by the U.S. Standards of Excellence in Short-Term Mission. Those agencies are sending people ill-prepared for the field, and it calls into question how they are investing their resources.
Mistake 2
Waiting to feel “called” to go.
Every Jesus follower is called to “go and make disciples”; Semesters is just one of many vehicles to do that. So the question is not if you are called to go, the question is how? And that question is only answered through prayer. Proverbs 16:9 says a man plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. This means you have to step out and take steps toward what you believe God has for you.
Mistake 3
Not being sure how to truly help and serve.
Many people travel with a genuine heart to help others. Their desire isn't born out of arrogance. But their attempts to minister can come across as misguided or fraught with misunderstandings in some cultures unless they come alongside actual local ministries who need and want help.
But What If You Could....
  •  Travel with a missions organization that’s sent over 150,000 people into the mission field over the past 27 years with extensive safety and security protocols in place.
  •  Use your gifts and talents to make a tangible difference in the world.
  •  See and explore some of the most beautiful places on earth with a community of like-minded believers.
  •  Experience a deeper relationship with God while you live as a modern-day disciple of Jesus, traveling throughout the world, sharing the hope and love of God.

And When You Do This, You Have:
  • Impact: You’ll stop wishing you could make a difference and witness the impact of your life dedicated in service to God. More than any other experience, you will be the change you want to see in the world.
  •  Invaluable Life Experience: A semester of experiences and memories will leave you telling stories for decades.
  •  Direction: Time to think, pray, and discern who God made you to be and discover His calling on your life.
  •  Powerful Faith: You’ll go deeper in your relationship with God and develop a powerful faith as you explore and live out your identity as a child of God.
  •  Community like the Early Church: You’ll travel with like-minded young adults with similar desires and passion as you, living as the Early Church did in Acts, developing relationships that will last a lifetime.
  •  Legacy: You’ll be part of planting churches so ministry can live on and influence generations to come.

Adventures in Missions has spent 12 years developing a process to develop modern-day missionaries after the model Jesus set. This program combines spiritual development, hands-on ministry,
and world travel in a semester unlike any other.
Step 1: Apply
  • Start your application by clicking APPLY NOW button below and complete your profile (it will take 30 seconds).
  •  Complete your application overview. This questionnaire portion of the application should only take about 40 minutes to complete. There are no wrong answers!
  •  Pay your application fee ($39), then schedule a 30-45 phone interview with an admissions advisor. You’ll hear back within a week or two regarding your acceptance.
  •  By completing a profile or application, you are not committing to go on the Race yet—although we hope you will! However, by completing these steps, you’ll gain better understanding along the way if the Race is for you.
Step 2: Acceptance
  • After acceptance, you’ll gain access to an admissions advisor who will help you with planning, fundraising ideas and all the logistical information you need to prepare.
  •  You’ll also pay a $150 deposit to secure your spot. We’ll begin to share with you a plan for fundraising. The goal is to raise the full amount by the time you launch. (A fear of not being able to raise the funds holds some people back from applying -- sometimes for years! Don't let this be you.)
  •  You’ll begin to prepare emotionally, physically and spiritually for your upcoming trip as well as begin to share your story with friends and family.
Step 3: Preparation
  • You will join your team, leaders and training staff for a 2-4 day preparation camp before your Race begins.
  •  You’ll receive evangelism and cross-cultural ministry training, learn how to share your stories, and how to live in close community while you adapt to the unknown.
  •  You will most likely experience worship styles, Bible teachings, and community different than you’ve previously experienced. We’ll encourage you to dig into Scripture and have conversations about these.
  •  You’ll also meet your teammates and trip leaders at Training Camp.
Step 4: Launch
  •  You’ll launch! Every day while on the Race will look a little different. Some days will be packed, other days could be slower. Every day will be focused on being a part of God's kingdom work.
  •  The World Race has built-in adventure days into each week, when you get to experience the local culture or sightsee.

Change of Plans? No Problem
We get it. Sometimes plans change.
Here’s the reality of applying to the Race: No one is going to force you to get on a plane, and you are not obligated to go. If you decide not to go after you apply, you're always welcome to reapply if God leads you back to the World Race! This won't affect your eligibility for any of our trips in the future.

Unfortunately, because of federal rules and regulations, the money donated toward your trip cannot be returned, and must be used for the World Race in order for us to retain our non-profit status. That money will be added to the general fund, allowing more racers to go on the Race.

However, we recently added the option of deferring your application to a later date. By proactively communicating with us, we can have our finance team look into your options to move your funds to a future launch window.
FAQ About The World Race: Semesters
What countries does World Race: Semesters go to?
Semesters trips have gone to countries all over the world, including Kenya, Swaziland, Uganda, Israel, India, Peru, Bolivia, Nicaragua, Thailand, Philippines, Tanzania, Guatemala, Mexico and more.

How long is Semesters?
Semesters trips launch in January, June, July, and September and can be anywhere from 1-3 months long.

What will I do while on Semesters?
Ministry looks different on every trip we offer. You can check out the trip descriptions to get an idea of what ministry might look like in each country. We believe ministry is a way of life, not just a daily assignment to complete. Some of your ministry is determined by asking the Lord what He is calling your team to specifically. You may see a need we don't even know exists—and we want you to have the freedom to meet that need!

Remember, the most impactful ministry you're a part of might be the relationship you build with your translator or the vendors at the market where you buy groceries. If you come with an open mind about what God has for you, you won't be disappointed!

What kind of things do I need to pack?
It can be overwhelming to think of packing your entire life into a backpack for several months. We promise it can be done! Once you apply for a trip, you'll find a general packing list on your profile. We'll also send you additional trip specific items after you are committed to go.

What is Training Camp?
You'll spend the first 3 days of your trip in Georgia to participate in Training Camp before you head to the field. During this time you'll meet your team, get to know your leaders, and learn about our values and how to live them out for the Kingdom.

What are World Race's Core Values?

Bringing Kingdom
You will have the opportunity to serve alongside our partner ministry hosts around the world. Whether sharing your faith, praying for the sick, playing with street children, sitting with widows, teaching English, preaching at church, painting buildings, or serving meals, you will be part of bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth.

"Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give."  Matthew 10:8

The Pursuit of God
Our hope is for you to become completely dependent on God. The journey away from the familiar is essential to this goal. Even if you have good world views and theology, you must learn to develop your own pursuit of God. To achieve this we believe you must journey away from the comfort of family, the security of friends, and the predictability of your everyday lives.

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith." Hebrews 12:1-2

Engaging the Holy Spirit
We encourage you to learn the discipline of listening prayer. Through this, you develop a two-way conversation with God and can more easily be led by the Holy Spirit. Our desire is for you to walk in the authority God has given you as sons and daughters.

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me." John 10:27

Community and Healthy Communication
Safe communities where conflict is managed in a healthy way and feedback is a norm is not common in our society. Living in a close community provides an immediate opportunity to learn humility and selflessness. You will be encouraged to give and receive honest feedback with peers and leaders. Feedback is a tool used to help you reach their fullest potential through sharing both positive and constructive observations.
"Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." Ephesians 4:15

Can I defer my student loans while participating in Semesters?
Many participants have successfully deferred student loan repayment while participating in mission trips with Adventures in Missions. For specific information relating to your student loan, please contact your loan provider. If your loan provider requests a letter regarding your participation in Semesters, please let your admissions advisor know, and they can help facilitate that request.

What does the cost of the trip include?
The cost of the trip includes airfare from Atlanta, GA to/from the minisry site, housing, meals, traveler's medical insurance, and the cost of any ministry opportunities while in country. Read more about the medical insurance plan through MissionSafe. The estimated cost of this plan is $3.82 per day.

Additional costs may include your passport, luggage fees (if needed), transportation from your home to/from Atlanta, GA, etc.
You'll find more information about support raising on your profile once you apply.

What can I expect from you?
A desire for you to succeed
Our desire is for this trip to be the best possible experience for you. Our core values exist because we want to see you reach your fullest potential. The leaders we place on the field are committed to investing in you. As staff, we read all of your blogs, pray for your teams regularly, rejoice in your victories and mourn in your losses. While we may only spend a short time with you, we truly want to see greatness in you.

We are committed to keeping you and your family informed in case of an emergency. Should you become seriously sick or involved an accident, your emergency contacts will be notified as soon as possible. In the case of an emergency in country (such as a natural disaster), the team leader will update staff at our headquarters in Gainesville, GA, and we will communicate information to you and your family promptly.
Should your family need to get in touch with you overseas in case of an emergency at home, they can reach us at 770-983-1060.

Emergency Travel Arrangements
On rare occasions, you may need to return home early. Reasons include but are not limited to: illnesses on the field that needs to be treated at home, an emergency at home requiring your return, or your inability or unwillingness to engage with the team or ministry on the field. (Please note, MissionSafe must be involved in all medical related travel needs.) Whether an early return is voluntary or not, we will work with you to arrange travel plans and rebook flights as necessary.

Dear Mom and Dad: What You Need to Know
Dear Parents,

Your child is about to embark on an adventure with the Lord which will change hearts and transform lives. We at World Race and Adventures are honored to be part of this journey.

While this is an experience of growth and development for your son or daughter, you are also about to embark on a journey of your own. As you release your child to go overseas, we understand your desire for them to have a positive experience in addition to being safe and secure.

The following serves as a resource for you, introduces your family to the Semesters Program and provides the information you need to move forward in confidence in your partnership with Adventures.

Your child is growing into adulthood. Semesters gives them freedom to make decisions for themselves and empowers them to take responsibility for their actions. Our expectation is they will be responsible to meet all deadlines, be your primary source of communication and information, and be ready for an adventure of a lifetime.

As you read through the following information, we pray the Lord shows you specific ways you can support your child as well as encourage them to grow into the man or woman God has created them to be.

This is a great milestone and we are cheering with you, believing God will do incredible things in and through your children!
