A classic World Race route with a twist. On this journey you will visit Central America, Southern Africa, and Southeast Asia - areas we have bases, long-standing partnerships, and experience. Additionally, this route will start in southern Mexico - a nation where Adventures in Missions first started 25 years ago, but we have not visited in many years. This will be an exciting opportunity to re-establish ministry here. This route also features Belize, a location we don’t visit often.
Mexico

Your Race will kick off in southern Mexico. You could say the World Race got its start in Mexico, as this was one of the first countries we served in. We have not sent teams there in many years, so establishing new relationships there will be very exciting. Racers will work with church planters in Mexico working to deeply invest in their communities. Most people in Mexico believe in Jesus, but there is a strong fixation on religion, superstition and legends that can keep people from the freedom of Christ. Much of Central America has a dark history of gang violence and drug trafficking that has caused many people to leave their homes. You will also find a great deal of refugees here who have settled from other countries.

Belize

Next you will head to the small, yet stunning nation of Belize, where the landscape is so lush and dense that there are only two official paved roads. The people are known for being very friendly and courteous. We don’t send teams to Belize very often, so this is a special opportunity. Racers in Belize typically focus on pouring into the youth through sports ministry, vacation Bible school, tutoring and Bible studies. There are also opportunities to work in homes for young women that have aged out of orphanages and to share the Gospel through horseback riding camps. No matter what, all of our partners in Belize have a focus on discipleship, so this month will be all about building relationships.

Guatemala

Your third month in Central America will be in the Guatemala – “Land of Eternal Spring.” This is a country where we have an established base. Guatemala is one of the most evangelical countries in the world. You’ll have the opportunity to work alongside local believers working to bring the Word of Christ to a new generation. You might spend your days building relationships with youth who are at risk for falling into gang violence, but you could also teach English or kick a soccer ball around in the lush rainforest terrain with volcanoes dotting the skyline. Life in Guatemala is slow and focused around hospitality, and it’s a truly stunning place where God is raising up a generation to serve His Kingdom.

Honduras

Your final month in Central America will wrap up in Honduras. Our ministry partners here share a vision to invest in the future generation and prevent them from falling into gang influence. Many parents in Honduras feel they can’t afford to take care of their children and end up left in orphanages. This month you’ll likely spend your time empowering and encouraging the young people of Honduras, modeling for them what it looks like to walk with Christ. You might get the opportunity to share the love of Christ with children in orphanages questioning if they are loved at all. Honduras is a lush, beautiful country that will ask you to look beyond the surface and the headlines on the news and see the hand of God at work here.

Philippines

Next, your journey will take you clear across the world to Southeast Asia, starting in the nation of 7,000+ islands, the Philippines. This nation is highly westernized in the cities, but has great poverty beyond its capital. Tuk-tuks whiz by everywhere and many communities are built alongside sewage dumps. The Philippines have been deeply affected by human trafficking and drugs. There is an staggering number of children left orphaned or living on the streets that need to be cared for. Many of our partners here devote their time to caring for this generation. You could spend your month empowering the youth by tutoring them and sharing with the incredible worth they have as children of God.

Myanmar

Exotic and mysterious, this nation was previously under violent military rule and highly isolated from the rest of the world. They opened their doors to the public less than 10 years ago and are eager to meet foreigners. Most people have not heard the Gospel and are very open to hearing more about Jesus. The work has to be subtle, but there is a great need for church planting and evangelism and short-term teams can be highly effective to our long-term partners. As you wander through these bustling streets, you will note the unique style of yellow makeup the women wear on their faces and the long wrap skirts that most men wear daily. The culture here is rich, and the people are eager to welcome you in.

Thailand

Thailand is known for its stunning beaches, friendly people and bustling outdoor food markets. You will feel welcomed here, but you’ll quickly take note of darkness that plagues this region: human trafficking. In Thailand, you might find yourself under neon flashing lights, sharing a Coke with women in between their dances in night clubs. You might find yourself having difficult conversations with the tourists partaking in the industry and spending hours covering your teammates and the streets in prayer.

Cambodia

Next, you’ll head to Cambodia. Here you will find delicious food, open air markets and bustling streets. Cambodia is still struggling to heal from a dark and crippling genocide in the 1970s and is currently faced with a large amount of poverty and human trafficking. A lot of ministry this month will focus on investing in youth. You’ll likely spend your month reaching children through teaching English and the Bible. English is critical for the younger generations to find sustainable jobs to move forward.

Zimbabwe

Next your World Race journey will take you to Southern Africa, starting in Zimbabwe. This nation is Home to the Zambezi river that feeds into the world-famous Victoria Falls. Zimbabwe is still in transition after being colonized and suffers from large unemployment rates. World Racers in Zimbabwe focus on coming along the local church and join in with everything the churches do, helping with their services, meetings, outreach and offering uplift and encouragement. Community and relationships are central to life in Zimbabwe, your month here will be all about discipleship through sharing life together.

Swaziland

Next you will head to the small but incredible nation of Swaziland (its name was recently changed to eSwatini). Swaziland has the highest HIV/AIDS rate in the world and as a result 1,000 of children have been left without parents. We have had a long-standing presence in Swaziland and have built a base there run by local and international staff. We partner with Children’s Hope Chest to operate large system of care points serving local orphaned and underserved children.

South Africa

Your World Race journey will end in the large and diverse nation of South Africa. This nation is incredibly multicultural and it still healing from it's dark and painful history of racism and segregation. This country has 11 official languages, coastlines on two oceans and world famous mountain views. Racers in South Africa focus a lot of their time on evangelism through the school systems. You might find yourself discipling middle and high school students through sports ministry, teaching life skills or assisting with academic classes.

Will you share the hope of the Gospel among these people?

  •  You’ll receive evangelism and cross-cultural ministry training, learn how to share your stories, and how to live in close community while you adapt to the unknown.
  •  You will most likely experience worship styles, Bible teachings, and community different than you’ve previously experienced. We’ll encourage you to dig into Scripture and have conversations about these.
